LionNet, a new wireless computer network on the Lincoln University main campus is now
available and ready for use in the following locations:
What about Lucy Laney and the new residence hall?
The LionNet was not installed in Lucy Laney or the new residence hall
(Building 116, also known as Apartment Style Living) because in those
residence halls each student has a 100-mbps Ethernet connection dedicated to them
in their room. Ethernet connections are both faster and more reliable than wireless connections,
which depend on radio signals to carry data. Radio signals can be degraded by weather and other
environmental and construction conditions.
When will the Lincoln University Plaza have wireless?
LionNet will be extended to the Plaza (previously known as the Graduate Center)
by the fall of 2008.
Other Locations
LionNet is planned for the renovated Student Union Building, the renovated Library,
the new Science Building, the International Cultural Center, and for Wright Hall
and Grimm Hall after their renovations are complete. As funding allows, LionNet will
be extended to the remaining smaller residence halls and office buildings on campus.
