The Information Technology Department is responsible for developing, maintaining, and operating computing, telephone, and cable television services for all Lincoln University locations.
Computing Services
IT responsibilities for computing service cover all software, hardware, and networking (except for scientific instruments). For those areas we coordinate:
Needs Analysis
IT works with University departments and programs to precisely define needs and desires, and determines
a minimal technology solution that comfortably meets requirements.
Project Planning, Budgeting, and Procurement
IT works with University departments and programs to methodically plan project activities and determine
detailed budget requirements. IT then conducts procurement activities in concert with university purchasing,
financial, and grant authorities.
Implementation and Testing
IT coordinates implementation tasks and testing, to ensure thorough exercise of all new system components
before they "go live".
On-going Support
IT provides direct support after implementation with on-campus Desktop Technicians, Programmer/Analysts,
and systems and networking personnel, and augments its staff with consulting assistance to fill gaps in
staff time and skill sets.
Security and Monitoring
IT employees a strategy of "defense-in-depth" and actively monitors campus networks and computing usage
in order to manage capacity and identify risks to the university and its members. IT vigorously pursues individuals
who attack or attempt to modify computing infrastructure without proper authorization.
