This week we are celebrating the great and interesting nation of SOUTH AFRICA! South Africa which gained its independence May 31st the year 1910 is an African nation with migrations of Europeans (mainly the Dutch from the Netherlands) who changed the ways of the folks in Africa referring to themselves by their tribal names to referring to themselves as “Africans”, “Afrikaans” or “Afrikaners”. Like the past America we know of, racial strife took over the country. The Europeans turned it into the whites and the blacks! Though the racial issues which were serious began to die down in the 1990’s, it still lives today.
South Africa is also known as the “Rainbow Nation”, a term coined by Archbishop Desmond Tutu and later adopted by then President Nelson Mandela. Mandela used the term as a metaphor to describe the nations multicultural diversity.
One fact if you didn’t know…South Africa will be the host nation for the 2010 FIFA World Cup!!
