ATS Mission and Goals

Serving the Lincoln University community by supporting the effective use of technology in instruction.

Online & Distance Teaching & Learning

Teaching online is not like teaching face-to-face, as you know. Your role as instructor is more of a guide in a class where students discover much of their own learning through different kinds of activities within the LMS or on the Web. Of course, articles and presentations are accessible in the LMS also.

ATS can help you prepare your course as a web-enhanced class which is talk face-to-face, or as a hybrid. You will learn how to use Moodle and how to teach online.

Web Based Tools to Teach Online

Other New & Emerging Technologies

What does a hybrid or web-enhanced class look like? How is it different?

Recorded lectures don't hold attention in an online class, so students will create their own learning online through assignments, discussions and other activities.

Create quizzes and exams, set up question banks, keep attendance, create and grade assignments, create an instructional game, have students keep reflective blogs, email all or some students at once.

Find Web content to actively engage your students, ask students to create an online magazine, turn your students into Web curators. Contact ATS for assistance.

Use video in Moodle

1. Embed a YouTube video directly in Moodle.

2. Create a video screencast to show students how to use software or manuever a website.

How to Create a Video Screencast
A video screencast is a short narrated recording while the instructoris using softare, demonstrating a software program, showing slides or doint research on the Web. In education it is most often used to show students how to do a task with a specific piece of software or to show a narrated sequence of slides.

A video screencast can easily be done with free software, Jing, or a more complex version of Jing, Camtasia. If you are interested in producing a video screencast, please contact ATS, ext. 7888 or
