ASSISTANT PROFESSOR/ASSISTANT CHAIR OF EDUCATION

The Assistant Chair of the Education Department is responsible for both the teaching of educational courses and meeting administrative responsibilities at both the graduate and undergraduate programs. The Assistant Chair of the Education Department is to work directly with the Coordinator of the Graduate Center at the Graduate Center located at 3020 Market Street in Philadelphia. The Assistant Chair of the Education Department reports directly to the Chair of the Education Department under the leadership of the Dean of Social Sciences and Behavioral Studies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties include but are not limited to assisting the Chair of the Education Department with both the undergraduate and graduate programs administration by providing support in the following areas.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  1. Maintains a clear and consistent focus on the University's higher education goals by providing excellent leadership at the Graduate Center by making sure that the graduate programs run effectively and efficiently.

  2. Works directly with the Chair of the Education Department in working towards meeting Education Department goals.

  3. Works directly with the Coordinator of the M.Ed. and M.S.R. Programs at the Graduate Center in supporting graduate students through admission, course selection and student advising.

  4. Works with the Director of Graduate Student Services and Graduate Admissions and Coordinator of the M.Ed. and M.S.R. Programs in recruiting, recommending and accepting students for the Graduate Education Programs.

  5. Monitors Graduate students' performance and make decisions based upon this information.

  6. Works with the Director of Graduate Student Services and Graduate Admissions and Coordinator of the M.Ed. and M.S.R. Programs in scheduling classes and determines which classes need to be scheduled based upon numbers and student needs at the Graduate Center.

  7. Recommends, mentors, retains, and assesses full-time and adjunct graduate faculty members who will provide excellent service and teaching for the graduate program.

  8. Collaborates with the faculty and staff on promoting "student centered" programs that adhere to the Pennsylvania Department of Education's guidelines on curriculum, standards and assessment of student learning through meetings and consistent contact.

  9. Assists in the implementation of a technologically driven data base that will provide clear records for students at the Graduate Center for various programmatic functions.

  10. Maintaining close contact with main campus through meetings and consistent reports with the Chair of the Education Department and faculty on a regular basis.

  11. Provides a yearly update on the last day of the academic year on the progress of the graduate programs by tracking data for the graduate center in the form of written reports and uses that report for program improvement.

  12. Determines which current and full-time professors teach the assigned courses .

  13. Works with the Chair and the Director of Graduate Student Services and Graduate Admissions in recruiting Graduate students for the Education programs.

  14. Maintains close ties with alumni to ascertain data in order to promote the university and its mission.

  15. Provides any additional duties as identified by the Chair of the Education Department and Dean of the School of Social Sciences and Behavioral Studies.

Teaching Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for teaching during fall and spring semesters with a three (3) credit reprieve for administrative duties for a total of twenty-four (24) credit hours. Responsible for teaching twelve (12) credit hours in each of the two semesters.

  2. Prepares and delivers lectures to students with stimulating discussions and student learning opportunities.

  3. Compiles, administers, and grades examinations, or assigns this work to others.

  4. Compiles bibliographies of specialized materials for outside reading assignments.

  5. Develops/utilizes knowledge of all accreditation and certification regulations and standards that apply to teacher preparation programs and participates in the state teacher accreditation process.

  6. Administers and scores placement tests in developmental courses (EDU 100, 101, & 102).

  7. Directs research of other teachers or graduate students working for advances academic degrees.

  8. Conducts research in particular field of knowledge and publishes findings in professional journals or makes presentations at professional meetings.

  9. Performs related duties such as advising students on academic and vocational curricula, acting as an adviser to student organizations, formal and informal instruction, tutorials, counseling students, original work or research, preparation of new courses, and service on various campus committees.

  10. Serves on faculty committee providing professional consulting services to government and industry.

  11. Attends all Departmental, School and University faculty meetings.

  12. All other relevant duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Must have an earned doctorate, Ed.D. or Ph.D. in Education.

  • A minimum of five years experience in administration and teaching in basic and/or higher education in one or more of the following areas is desired: Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Reading Education, Special Education, and Secondary Education.

  • Ability to infuse state of the art educational technology into the classroom is an asset.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills are a plus.

Education:

  • Earned doctorate in Education; i.e., Early Childhood Education/Elementary Education/Reading Education/Special Education and/or Educational Leadership.

Experience:

  • A minimum of five years teaching experience in a public school setting and in higher education is preferred.

Lincoln University, PA, seeks to build its Mass Communications Center of Excellence by hiring a qualified candidate to join the Department of English and Mass Communications as Assistant/Associate Professor of Broadcast Journalism.

The Department of English and Mass Communications at Lincoln University of Pennsylvania, the nation's oldest HBCU, is seeking to fill a tenure-track position in English Composition and Rhetoric.

The successful candidate will teach composition and writing-intensive courses at various levels with a maximum of three preparations, advising students on academic curricula and vocational concerns, serving on university and departmental committees. The candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work within a culturally diverse organization. The Department of Visual and Performing Arts at Lincoln University of Pennsylvania, the nation's oldest HBCU, is seeking a full-time tenure-track position in Music (Music Education).

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate music education courses, as well as supervise field experiences. The position requires serving as a faculty liaison to the Department of Education as well as assisting students with the department's music education competencies.

A Ph.D. in Music with a concentration in music education is required. The candidate must show evidence of accomplished, creative and/or research activities in music education. A record of successful teaching in public schools demonstrated knowledge of and experience in current music teaching practices in elementary and secondary school. Tenure-track, Assistant Professor position to begin August 2008.  The Department of Visual & Performing Arts seeks a dynamic individual to assist in the development of a growing program that has offered the Visual Arts major since 1995.

Responsibilities include: coordinate and teach all levels of Graphic Arts courses including: ART102-Introduction to Computer Arts, ART 220-Graphic Arts I: Digital Imaging & Typography, ART320-Graphic Arts II: Survey of Digital Multimedia Forms, and ART420-Graphic Arts III: Desktop Publishing. 

The preferred candidate will also be able to teach Printmaking, and/or another studio area.  

The ability to offer independent studies in areas of expertise is required. Other responsibilities include teaching ART 201 - Introduction to Art, and other administrative duties connected with the Visual Arts Program.

Lincoln University of Pennsylvania, founded in 1854, is the first historically Black university in the nation. Today we depend on our staff and employees to help provide the highest quality education to students with promise, potential, and determination. In an historic move, Lincoln University and the Barnes Foundation are working cooperatively to offer a Visual Arts major aligned with minor emphases with a museum studies focus. The collaborative art program with the Barnes Foundation is one of five new Centers of Excellence established as part of Lincoln University’s progressive ten year Strategic Plan.

Students in the program receive a B.A. Degree from Lincoln University and will take courses developed cooperatively with the Barnes Foundation that will provide opportunities for academic research in museum studies topics, along with a course on the history and pedagogical goals of the Barnes Foundation.

Applications are being invited for a full-time tenure-track faculty position in art history within the Department of Visual and Performing Arts, and in conjunction with the Lincoln University/Barnes Foundation Visual Arts Collaborative Initiative. The Department seeks a dynamic individual who will be able to work within this program and will be an integral partner in its theoretical development and growth, student recruitment, and future potential to contribute to the academic curriculum.

Requirements for this position include a terminal degree (Ph.D.) in art history with substantial coursework/research in African art and culture.

Candidates with extensive university teaching experience are preferred. Full participation in advising, and other administrative duties connected with the Visual Arts Program and service on university-wide committees is required. Strong commitment to ongoing professional activity, including scholarly research is necessary.

The preferred candidate must also be qualified to teach general Art History survey and ART201-Introduction to Art, which is a humanities based art survey within the University core curriculum. Candidates with experience and the credentials to develop and teach courses in African American art, museum studies, and/or art theory and criticism are preferred.

The Director of Athletics is responsible for the planning, management, administration and direction of the Lincoln University Department of Athletics and its programs within the academic mission of the University. The Director will be responsible for all aspects of Lincoln University moving from the NCAA's Division III to Division II competition and starting a football program.   1. Direct and supervise the administration of the men and women's athletic programs. This includes all administrative, operational and business functions of the Department of Athletics in accordance with the policies and procedures as established by the Vice President for Student Affairs & Enrollment Management and approved by the President of the Board of Trustees.
  2. Set forth the department's funding requirements, and then supervise the overall management and control of the approved fiscal year operating budget for all men and women's intercollegiate sports.
  3. Recruit and provide for selection, organization, and supervision of the staff, and delegate specific responsibilities to assure efficient and productive operation of all administrative, business, fiscal and athletic activities of the department.
  4. Understand and be aware of the value and needs of the student-athlete in general.
