"It
is essential that we continue the fall developmental program that we initiated
last year. The practice, competition, and pre-season training were major contributors
to our team improvement. We also plan to use the fall game experience as a building
block for the spring and as a recruiting tool," said Johnson.
Johnson worked
all summer with Admissions, Financial Aid, and Residential Life to recruit 11
student athletes. "I am quite pleased with the cooperation that I received from
several departments at LU that helped us to attract 11 student-athletes to chose
Lincoln for their education and baseball. This is now two consecutive years of
large baseball recruiting classes. This allows us to continue to rebuild the program
around experienced recruits. We now have some depth at spots that we needed to
fill quickly. The combination of these new students with our returning core players
should make us a more complete and competitive team", said Johnson.
Here
is a snapshot of the recruits: Josiah Barnes (OF) from East Lansdowne-PA, Peter
Fisher (OF) from Stamford-CT, Josh Graber (RHP) from Baltimore-MD, Dante Lum (IF)
from New Castle-DE, Franklin Raymond (OF) from Wilmington-DE, Edgar Rivera (1B)
from New Brunswick-NJ, Ruben Sanchez (RHP) from Bronx-NY, Anthony Sierra (IF)
from Stanford-CT, Louis Velasquez (IF) from Philadelphia-PA, Josh Williams (LHP,
OF) from Philadelphia-PA, and Duane Wyse (IF) from Philadelphia-PA.
These
new students will be added to a team that includes a good solid base of returning
core players including Marcus Bradford, Anthony Cianferano, Matthew Sample, and
several other key returning players.
