FALL
2003. Lincoln University Lions Baseball Team News Baseball Team Announces Fall
Schedule. Large incoming recruited class.
The Lincoln
University Lions Baseball Team, an NCAA Division III Intercollegiate baseball
team, announced their extensive fall schedule. In addition to tryouts and practices,
it includes 5 games vs. local colleges. Paul K. Johnson, Head Coach, also developed
the 1st Annual Orange & Blue Classic (contingent upon 18+ person roster). This
Classic will be a split-squad exhibition best 2 of 3 game series tournament that
will allow team members to play each other to develop team skills. Tryouts are
scheduled for August 27-29 and September 2 at 4 PM at Lions Field.
"Executing an extensive fall baseball program was one of our major priorities
at the conclusion of last season. The Classic is a development tool that I picked
up from other collegiate programs that will allow us to prepare for the fall games
vs. the other college teams. We plan to use the fall game experience as a building
block for the spring and as a recruiting tool," said Johnson.
Johnson had a particularly good summer. In May, he was awarded with the Drexel
University Alumni of the Year Award. In July he served as an assistant coach for
Camden County (NJ) Babe Ruth Baseball Team(16U) and won the New Jersey Babe Ruth
State Championship. He led his summer team, the Philly Area Black Sox (19U), to
their 14th championship appearance in 15 years. "Most importantly, with the help
of Admissions and Financial Aid, I am happy that we were able to attract 11 student-athletes
to chose Lincoln for their education and baseball. This is the largest baseball
recruiting class in recent memory. It continues with our goal of rebuilding the
program around experienced recruits", said Johnson.
