Applying for Your Loan Just Got Easier


Federal Direct Loan
Master Promissory Note (MPN) and
Student Loan Entrance Counseling Instructions

If a Federal Direct Loan is part of your financial aid package, your loan proceeds cannot be credited to your student account until you follow the instructions below. Also, Federal regulations require The Lincoln University to administer entrance loan counseling to all student (FIRST TIME) loan borrowers before they receive their loan proceeds.

A) Go to “www.studentloans.gov.” Click on “Log In”.
Enter your User Name and ID Password (click on “Create an FSA ID” if you do not have a username and ID password.

Click on “Complete Master Promissory Note.”

Select “Complete Subsidized/Unsubsidized MPN” .

Provide your personal information. Click “Continue.”

Enter two Personal References. Click “Continue.”

Read your terms and conditions (all sections), and acknowledge that you have read, understand, and agree. Click “Continue.”

Electronically sign and then review your MPN, then print your MPN for your records.
You will receive a congratulations confirmation upon successful completion.

B) Under the counseling section (located on bottom left side of screen) click on “Complete
Counseling.”

Click “Start Counseling” under Entrance Counseling “.

Enter your school state and school name, click “Continue.”

Read ALL the information, then answer the questions provided, click “Continue” until quiz is completed

Once you have completed all the steps and viewed the borrowers rights and responsibilities click

“Submit” and receive a congratulations confirmation.

C) You have successfully completed the mandatory loan process for your Federal Direct Loans.


Attention Parents

Before applying for the Federal PLUS Loan you must complete the Federal PLUS Loan Pre-Qualification Request Form (provided by the Office of Financial Aid) to determine if you will be approved or denied.

How to Complete Your Approved Federal Plus Master Promissory Note (MPN) for Federal Plus Loan
(For Parents Only)

If a Federal PLUS Loan is part of your child's financial aid package, your Federal PLUS Loan proceeds cannot be credited to the student's account until you follow the instructions below to complete the Federal PLUS Loan Master Promissory Note.

  • Log onto www.pin.ed.gov and apply for your PIN number as a parent (refer to PIN postcard for instructions). A PIN number is mandatory. It will be required to sign your Federal PLUS MPN electronically.
  • You must retrieve your pin number from your e-mail within five days of applying.
  • Once PIN is retrieved, log on to www.aessuccess.org to complete Federal PLUS Loan MPN.
  • Click "Parent PLUS Loans" under "Find Aid for School" then click "Apply Now."
  • Follow the instructions on how to complete your Federal PLUS MPN online, and click "Continue".
  • Click "Create an Account," to create username and password.
  • Verify your information and click "Submit".
  • Upon successful completion, click "Continue".
  • Enter your dependent student's Social Security Number, click "Continue".
  • Choose school location (Pennsylvania), school name (Lincoln University), and click "Continue".
  • Enter loan period (8/2008 - 4/2009), and click "Continue".
  • Select the lender from the drop down menu and click "Continue".
  • Once you have completed the requested information in its entirety, click "Submit."
  • Your signature options will appear (PIN signature is highly recommended)
  • Follow remaining signature requirements.

INSTRUCTIONS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE

We request that you follow-up with AES/PHEAA (1-800-692-7392) shortly after you have completed the online application to ensure it has been received.
