The English Education major is certified to teach English in secondary schools.

A student desiring to major in English Education must have written approval of the English Department. Completion of twelve (12) semester courses in English, ten (10) education courses, and two semesters of a foreign language is required. Required English and Education courses are:

· ENG 214: Literary Criticism
· ENG 301: American Literature
· ENG 313/EDU 313: Literature for Children and Adolescents
· ENG 384: Linguistics I
· ENG 385: Linguistics II
· ENG 400: Methods in Teaching English
· ENG 401: Shakespeare
· ENG 410: Theory and Development of the Novel
· ENG 495: Research in English Education (ENG, 1 credit)


EDUCATION DEPARTMENT REQUIREMENTS

· EDU 201: Introduction to Education
· EDU 202: Educational Psychology
· EDU 203: Education and Psychology of the Exceptional Child
· EDU 207: Sophomore Field Experience (1 credit)

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

FOREIGN LANGUAGE
All English Education students must take two (2) consecutive semesters of a foreign language.

MATHEMATICS
All English Educations students must take Math 201 and Math 202

Praxis I & II
All English Educations majors must Pass Praxis I and Praxis 2 tests to be eligible to student teach


EXIT REQUIREMENTS FOR MAJOR IN ENGLISH EDUCATION

1. Satisfactory completion of all Core Curriculum Courses.
2. Satisfactory completion of two semesters of the same foreign language.
3. Satisfactory completion of all required English courses.
4. Satisfactory completion of all required Education courses.
5. Satisfactory completion of required Field Experience courses in Education Department.
6. Satisfactory completion of Mathematics 201 & 202
7. Successful completion of all PRAXIS tests.
