My parents sent me to The STI program without even asking me if I wanted to go.  This year I didn’t do as well as I used to in school.  I went from a small catholic middle school to a huge public high school and the transformation was difficult.  I got too caught up with being with the popular crowd that I forgot what the purpose of me being in school was.  So my mother told me that I had to go to the program to make up for the time I lost and wasted during the school year.  I thought she was punishing me by sending me here but once I got here I realized that it was going to be a great experience. All of the kids in this program are nice and my counselors are cool.  Now that I’m here I am happy because it made me forget about all my problem.

My counselors (Haja and Justin) are very nice people, who  actually care about us.  They taught us about life lesson and allowed us to express  our selves.  Haja and Justin were like a sister and brother to me.  They are very special to me and this page was designed to thank them for all the things they did for us this summer.

Haja,

I don't know how you tolerated me for these past few weeks, but I would like to thank you for doing so. You being my counselor made this program even better.  I don't know how I would have gotten through this summer without you.  Even though we took over your room, and got in your business you always had our backs and cared about our feelings.  You are like a big sister to me and I look up to you.  I wish you nothing but the best for and your future and i hope you get a car soon so you can take all of the girls in the program shopping. lol. love ya lots haj-G. Keep in touch.

Justin

Justin, i don't know what to say about you, except you keep it real.  You didn't tell us what we wanted to hear you told us what we needed to hear and that is what makes you so special.  I appreciate everything you did for us this summer, like jumping in cold water and passing your lifeguard test just so we could go swimming this summer.

Have you ever been to a place where at first you though “why am I here”, but after exploring the place, and experiencing some of its wonders, you realized that you could learn a couple of things.  Well that is the way I felt when I went to the Rail Road museum!!!  I have never experienced such breathtaking items in my life.

By taking the trip to the museum I saw all different types of trains including the Diesel, which is a train ran by diesel oil.  I learned that Electric trains are mainly seen in the cities.  While in the museum I was able to go in some of the older trains and I was even able to go on a train ride.  While on the train ride I got to experience the way it feels to get on a train.  At the end of the day I was able to move toy trains around with a remote control and I even got to build a bridge with connect fours.  Over all this was a great experience for me and I really enjoyed being there.

My Field Trip to The airport

For today’s trip we went to the Philadelphia International Airport.  We were able to take a tour through the airport and see the different types of jobs that were held there. Our main tour guides name was Ms. Bernadette.  She was a very nice lady who took her time answering our questions.

We learned many important facts like out of all the pilots at the airport only two of them are African American. The Airport is a public place therefore homeless people can live there as long as they don’t bother the customers or effect business.  There are approximately 12 homeless people living in the airport today.  When the attacks on 9/11 occurred the airports security grew tighter.  Every bag that comes in the airport is scanned, and if something doesn’t look right the airport staff has the right to go through it.

Mr. Bernadette taught us the purpose of the FAA building, which was a tall tower outside the airport.  The FAA building was used to tell the pilots where to line the planes up and when to take off. She also told us to get a job at the airport you need to have a Aviation Management degree.

I really enjoyed going on this trip because I learned things about the airport that I never knew.
