Entrepreneurship Mentor Lawrence F. Williams, II
Mr. Williams resides and has been an active participant in the community all his life. Additionally, he has helped found and/or been a member of several local community focused non-profit organizations. Local ties to the community include being an active member of the Pinn Memorial Baptist Church and serves on the Board of Directors for the Wynnefield Residence Association.
Lawrence served as Senior Vice President of Pryor, Counts & Co., Investment Bankers. He worked closely with the Chairman to identify, pursue and close structured finance and merger & acquisition deals. He also negotiated transaction terms and performs valuations, risk analysis and modeling of potential portfolio investments.
Before his time at Pryor, Counts, Mr. Williams was a Global Risk Management Consultant for Tillinghast-Tower Perrin in New York, Philadelphia and for their South American operations. He developed market entry strategies for the general and risk management practices in Brazil and Argentina America which resulted in consulting opportunities in those countries.
Mr. Williams served as the VP of Business Development for the Diaspora Development Corporation, an organization founded for the sole purpose of conducting economic development activities throughout urban/inner city communities. While employed at CIGNA Corporation for 7 years, Lawrence helped co-found the Project Reach Back mentoring/tutoring program working with inner city children.
Furthermore, Mr. Williams helped found the Mandela Heritage Group whose goals are to mentor youths, provide college scholarships and expose people of color to the game of golf.
Lawrence is on the Advisory Board of the Philadelphia Business Leadership Group, an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to improving the economic and social health of the Philadelphia region and is the Director of Marketing for the northeast region for the Small Business Investment Corporation of America, which provides savings and investment training to residence in under developed urban rural markets. He is a board member of the Young Professional Network for the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce as well as the board for the Columbia North YMCA Y Achievers Program. Lastly, Lawrence serves as President of the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of the National African American Insurance Association (NAAIA).
Mr. Williams is also an entrepreneur. He acquired the oldest African American owned insurance brokerage firm in the Greater Philadelphia region. Watlington & Cooper was founded in 1948 and provides both commercial and personal insurance products and services. He is a fully licensed broker in the state of Pennsylvania with lines of authority in Life, Health, Accident and Property & Casualty.
In 2008, Mr. Williams held the position of Senior Vice President of Marketing and Business Development at AV International, a full service insurance and risk management consulting firm based in Wayne, PA. Prior to this position, he served as an Associate Agent for Nationwide Insurance. He is currently the Managing Director for NRM International which provides comprehensive insurance and risk management solutions based in downtown Philadelphia. Lawrence attended Central High School, Howard University, and the Wharton School of Business of the University of Pennsylvania.
