RECOGNITION OF LINCOLN UNIVERSITY                                        RES288_020908
VOLUNTEERS IN THE 9TH WARD
         
     

WHEREAS,  Adonita Ahmetaj, President; Chester Hampton, VP Internal Affairs; Kerrie Brewster, VP External Affairs; Alisa Davis, Treasurer; Courtney Jackson, Secretary; and Harold Williams, President Pro Tem, officers of Lincoln University Student Government Association (SGA), were desirous of providing an opportunity for Lincoln University students to be of assistance to those affected by the Hurricane Katrina disaster; and
 
WHEREAS, The SGA worked diligently to secure funding to support a group of student volunteers from Lincoln University; and
 
WHEREAS, The SGA sought out and collaborated with “Lean On Me, Inc.” to arrange for the participation of Lincoln University students in the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts for the period December 7-15, 2007; and
 
WHEREAS, The forty-one students and four staff advisors listed herein traveled by bus to New Orleans, Louisiana and volunteered in the 9th Ward for seven days assisting with painting, removal of debris, distribution of clothing and food, and providing much needed care at an animal shelter;

Therefore be it
 
RESOLVED, That the President of Lincoln University and the Lincoln University Board of Trustees recognize the Lincoln University Student Government Association for its excellent leadership in spearheading this worthwhile and important mission; and be it further
 
RESOLVED, That the President of Lincoln University and the Lincoln University Board of Trustees recognize the contributions to society, humanitarian efforts and willingness of the Lincoln University students and staff members to serve their fellow man in times of distress and need; and be it further
 
RESOLVED, That the President of Lincoln University and the Lincoln University Board of Trustees recognize these efforts as those that continue to promote and advance the Lincoln University legacy of excellence.
