Garfield Yuille enters his third year in charge of the Lincoln University men’s basketball team. Yuille has dual roles within the Lincoln University Athletic Department. He also serves as an instructor in the Health and Physical Education Department.   

Yuille, who earned a sports management degree in 1991, was an assistant coach during the 2003-04 season. Yuille has guided Lincoln to a 46-12 record during his tenure as coach of the Lions.

After a successful rookie season in which Yuille compiled a 21-7 record and led Lincoln to the Association of Division III Independents tournament and the first round of the ECAC Division III Southern Region tournament, his second season was one for the ages.

The Lions established a school record for victories with 25 and qualified for the NCAA Division III tournament, advancing to the Sweet 16. In finishing with a 25-5 mark last year, Lincoln won four regular season tournaments, the Association of Division III Independents Championship postseason tournament and hosted the first two rounds of the NCAA Division III tournament.

Yuille was named Division III Mid-Atlantic region Coach of the Year by D3hoops.com. He was also named the Association of Division III Independents Coach of the Year.     


A 1991 Lincoln University graduate, Yuille coached the Baltimore Stars under 16 Athletic Amateur Union team along with Duane Davis to six consecutive state titles and the team was ranked third in the nation. Yuille also played two years of semi-professional basketball for the Camden Power (1994 and 1995) and three years for the United States Marine Corp travel team. Yuille graduated from Overbrook High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Overbrook is the alma mater of Hall of Fame basketball player Wilt Chamberlain and actor Will Smith.
