President’s  Report

When the PA House Appropriations Committee asked for testimony regarding remediation from presidents representing state colleges/universities, community colleges, and state-related institutions, all reports were almost exactly the same.

President has all necessary approvals for starting the designs for the new academic building.

Action Items

• Minutes for February 6 and March 6 minutes were approved.

• Dr. Benson Prigg presented Educational Policies/Curriculum Committee proposals:

  • Proposal for Philosophy major passed, with a friendly amendment, proposed by Jeffrey Chapp, to change the name for PHL 206 name to Philosophy of Art and Art Criticism.

  • The faculty also passed the proposed PHL 225 Professional Ethics and PHL 221 World Ethics courses.

  • Faculty passed the Master of Education Policy on Academic Standing (#3607).

  • Faculty passed the M.S.A. Policy on Academic Standing (#3607) . 

  • Faculty passed proposals for revised Visual Arts Curriculum.

  • The faculty also passed the proposal for the new Honors Program.

  • The faculty approved the revised MHS Policy on Incomplete Grades, as presented by the Educational Policies/Curriculum Committee.

Discussion Items

• Middle States: Dr. Joseph—April 23, 2007 is Assessment Day. The guest speaker for that day is Dr. Peter Gray from the US Naval Academy to talk about assessment.

• Rotation of Departmental Chairs: Dr. Robert E. Millette—Dr. Millette proposed a conference on the chair rotation. The motion did not pass.  A motion to count votes also did not pass.

Announcements

• Dr. Rufus O. Jimerson announced that the Research and Publications Committee would accept proposals until April 18, 2007.

• The 30th Annual Conference on Black History in Pennsylvania will take place on the Lincoln University Campus, April 12-14.

• Rebecca Benoit, SGA presidential candidate, stated that the SGA elections were plagued by problems.
